Santa Rosa 200K Brevet (fixed gear)
This is the second time that both Lisa and I have ridden this event. Since the course was identical to the one we familiarized ourselves with in the 2006 event, we figured it would be a great way to get more miles under us on the fixies for future big rides.

Starting and finishing in Healdsburg, the course wound through Alexander Valley and Calistoga, along Silverado Trail and to the turnaround point at Skyline Park in Napa. I remembered it so well from last year, I probably wouldn't have needed a route sheet.

In positive contrast to last year's event, this year's ride was kissed by ideal Spring-like weather. It's hard to believe we were riding the same roads last year that, late in the afternoon, were actually accumulating slush on the ground from a freak hail storm and sleeting.

Better weather, better luck, perhaps better fitness all played a part in our ability to finish this one considerably faster than we did last year. The fruits of our effort were the enjoyment of hanging out for a longer time with other riders at the Bear Republic Brewery afterwards.

With only a few gentle grades, and undulating rollers typical of wine country roads, this course has quickly become one of my favorites for longer riding on the fixie. And hopefully, we'll have saved enough energy and fervor to do this sort of thing on another 200K fixie ride in exactly one week.

Distance: 125 miles | Elevation gain: 3,300' | Ride time: 7h10m
